Do you sleep hot? According to research, sleeping “too hot” is one of the primary causes of a lousy night's sleep. And according to Consumer Trends “Exclusive Better Sleep Council Research” in March 2017’s edition of “Sleep Savvy”, comfort and support are the most important features in a mattress; with a whopping 60% of consumers surveyed listing a mattress that ‘stays cool’ as an important factor when it comes to the overall quality of sleep (“What moves consumers to replace their mattress?”, pg. 42). A survey done by the National Sleep Foundation asked respondents to rate the importance of several elements of their sleep experience in getting a good night’s sleep (“Bedroom Poll Report”, pg. 24) and found that 79% of those surveyed (about two-thirds or more!) rated room temperature as an important factor. And yet another survey by “The National Sleep Research Project” cited something similar: “To drop off we must cool off; body temperature and the brain's sleep-wake cycle are closely linked. That's why hot summer nights can cause a restless sleep. The blood flow mechanism that transfers core body heat to the skin works best between 18 and 30 degrees. But later in life, the comfort zone shrinks to between 23 an 25 degrees - one reason why older people have more sleep disorders.” ( “40 facts about sleep you probably didn’t know…” )
